West 83, led by Dr. Jessica Sartori, offers a wide range of services to public, non-profit, and charitable organizations. Our services include, but are not limited to those listed below.
They're organized under two headings For Boards and For Executives, which generally relate to governance and strategy, and operations and leadership, respectively. But feel free to check out the whole list or just give us a call if you don't see what you're looking for.
For Boards:
Strategic planning
Every [public and non-profit] organization should know what their priorities are for the next few years. A comprehensive plan, with measurable goals and timeframes, will help ensure your organization is resilient against environmental changes, prepared for new opportunities, and has everyone working together. Let WEST 83 work with you to define a scope that is right for your organization.
Board assessments and development
Does your board talk about how best to work together for the betterment of the organization you serve? Do you struggle with quorum? Do board members feel unheard or disengaged? Starting with half-day on-line or in-person team-building retreats up to developing a full board evaluation system and improvement plan, WEST 83 can assist you.
By-law consultation*
An organization’s by-laws are a critical set of rules about how the board will govern. Your by-laws contain information about how the board must legally operate. WEST 83 provides affordable facilitation of by-law reviews and updates that you can then turn over to a legal expert for finalization.
*WEST 83 does not offer legal advice.
Board Policy development
All public and non-profit organizations need board policies. This includes critical policies such as Conflict of Interest, Code of Conduct, Financial Management, and Delegation of Authority. WEST 83 can work with you to develop policies that make sense for your organization.
Basic and custom training for boards
Do you know why your by-laws have a section for members and another section for directors? Do you know your liabilities as a board member? It is essential that boards understand their roles and responsibilities and fulfill their duties in accordance with applicable legislation and their by-laws. WEST 83 offers basic workshops and customized training specific to your board that help take the guesswork out of what you should be doing in the boardroom - and outside of it.
Board Chair training
I wish I had a loonie every time I heard someone say they are the Chair of a non-profit board because they drew the short straw… If it is ‘your turn’ to chair and you are not sure where to start, WEST 83’s Principal Consultant has personal experience as a director and board chair. Give us a call if you are looking for some tips, training, or thoughts as to what you should focus on, how to run effective meetings, and partner with other board members and the Executive Director.
Fractional / interim executive support
Is your Executive Director retiring or going on leave and you need someone to fill in for a bit? WEST 83 is led by an experienced Interim Executive Director and former full-time Chief Executive Officer who would be happy to discuss how she can help you for a short time.
One of the main responsibilities of an executive is to develop and lead appropriate change management strategies, whether this is implementing a new program, eliminating a service, or redesigning your organizational structure or service model. WEST 83’s Principal Consultant has not just read the books. As a Chief Executive Officer, she has lived it. We would be happy to support you through your organization’s change process.
Policies should empower your team, not bury them in red tape. We specialize in translating complex requirements into clear, actionable guidelines. From service provision and ethical fundraising practices to volunteer safety protocols (yes, you need policies for your volunteers), we’ll ensure your frameworks protect your mission—and your people.
Data shouldn’t be a burden—it should guide your organization toward smart decisions. Whether you’re drowning in spreadsheets or just dipping a toe into evidence-based decision-making, we can help. We can work together to identify the KPIs that actually reflect your mission and even train your staff to turn numbers into narratives.
Do you know if your programs are meeting their goals or whether participants are better off? WEST 83 can help you go beyond counting participants to measuring real-world outcomes. Through surveys, interviews, and a detailed look under the hood, we’ll give you the insights (and the courage) to continuously improve for your clients with confidence.
It's no secret that nonprofit environments thrive on passion—but passion alone won’t prevent turnover or burnout. The best organizations periodically gather formal feedback from staff related to what gets them up in the morning and what makes them hit the "snooze" button. WEST 83 will work with you to identify cultural strengths and friction points, then co-create solutions that re-energize the team and build trust.
Staring down a big decision? WEST 83 can help you with the heavy lifting. Our deep dives into academic research, sector trends, and peer organization strategies give you the clarity to act—without the late-night Google rabbit hole.
Is your structure keeping pace with your ambitions? We conduct comprehensive reviews to ensure your teams, workflows, and systems align with your evolving mission. Through interviews, process mapping, and benchmarking, we’ll spotlight gaps in efficiency—then craft a plan to close them to help you unlock what’s possible.
Organizational training for staff and leaders needs to be grounded in pedagogy that is geared to adult learners and respects your team’s time, experience, and intelligence. WEST 83's Principal Consultant has developed and delivered course content and instructional materials for Psychology undergraduate courses from year 1 to graduation, as well as organizational training modules across her career. So whether it’s policy writing workshops, ethics, or leading hybrid teams, WEST 83 can develop content for your organization that is relevant and meaningful.
This all sounds good, but you’re still not sure what you need? Give me a call. The first hour is free.
